Truths behind running your small business?

If you were to ever spend a day in my mind, you would be exhausted. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always day dreamed about ideas. I was obsessed with interior design (still am). I loved reorganizing my room every month, drew out dream houses and even harassed my dad to change things in the house. To this day, I am still spit firing ideas to myself. I love trying new things and teaching myself new things. It wasn’t till last year, when I decided to really push myself.

Also, I’m not a professional writer, so if you see any grammatical errors (most likely will see plenty), just ignore them ;) . I’m just writing as I think.

When I started LBL, I had no guidance. I started watching a few videos on Tiktok & Youtube on how to create candles. Because these decorative candles were new, there wasn't much on the internet. Even now, you don’t see many tutorials or science behind it. All tutorials are created to make jar candles. Therefore, creating the perfect candle was all trial and error. And the one thing I didn’t realize is how much the trial and error would cost me.. Most of my start up costs went into trying new formulas, packaging & everything else.

You see all these small businesses on TikTok and other social media platforms talking about the perks of owning a small business, but no one ever talks about the reality of it. The reality of it is that it’s hard, frustrating and exhausting. I still work a full time sales job, therefore its forced me to become great at time management. The only time I get to work on my business is after work hours and on the weekends. Are there weekends I want to lay in bed and watch tv, uhm yeah! Do I give myself that time off, uhm yeah! That’s the perk of owning your own business. You can create your own schedule and work at your pace. But if that pace is too slow, then chances of you succeeding may be a bit slower. But then, everyone has their own definition of success. My initial goal was to pay off my business debts. And those debts were not cute.

My only advice to anyone who is thinking of starting a new business is, plan and strategize before. Really think of a plan and execute. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see me post the behind the scenes stuff and talk about the hardships. But the accomplishments that come with owning your own business and the support means the world.
